PhD at UPV/EHU

• PhD students at DIPC should also be part of a doctoral program at UPV/EHU. There are several thematically fitting programs. The usual one used at DIPC is Doctoral Programme in Physics of Nanostructures and Advanced Materials. The applicable procedures are summarized here.
• It is not necessary that the supervisor(s) be part of the doctoral program of UPV/EHU to register the student in the program. However, for supervisor(s) that are not part of UPV/EHU, an internal tutor is needed in addition to the supervisor(s), whose task will be to provide formal oversight of the project.
• A PhD thesis can be co-supervised by two researchers, without counting the tutor, unless he/she is one of the supervisors.
• The registration deadlines can be found in this page. If the student starts the PhD while the registration period is open, the student can register normally by following the instructions on the page.
• Note that it is often still possible to register in the doctoral program after the deadline has passed. This will likely be the only option for students who started their PhD after the academic year formally started. For that, the student or one of the supervisors should contact the head of the doctoral program they wish to join and ask to be registered in the program, and follow their instructions. They will likely be asked to show their contract at DIPC, where the grant/funding that the student is to receive is shown before initiating the admision procedure.
• The student has to pay a yearly fee (approximately 301€/ academic year) in order to be part of the doctoral program. After paying the fee each year, the student can ask for a reinbursment at DIPC and receive the money back.
• The student has to upload his/her research plan and activity reports via GAUR, where the reports have to be checked and approved by the supervisor(s).
